Korean leaders are taking advantage of the world’s attention toward the Olympics by showcasing its own advanced technologies in autonomous vehicles and fuel cell vehicles.

A fleet of autonomous Hyundai fuel cell electric cars completed 190 kilometer journey from Seoul to Pyeongchang. It is the first public example of a Level 4 autonomous fuel cell vehicle.

Why is this important? 
Autonomous vehicles have a much higher electricity needs than traditional combustion engine vehicles. If we assume that self-driving vehicles will emerge alongside electric motor vehicles, then we must consider electricity use for both propulsion and powering on board computers.

Fuel cell EV advocates are now making a strong case that battery powered EVs will be strained in a world of power-intensive autonomous vehicles.
